once again …

Why do Christian songs have to be so self-centered?? I know I’ve asked this question before, but no one has been able to explain to me the shift from Christ-centered to me-centered.

I guess with all the stuff that has been happening in my life, I’ve been more focused on Him. God has blessed us tremendously in this time of pain. He has given us good friends, a wonderful church family … and he has even continued to bless the business! Jeff has one client who upped their hours and another client (who isn’t on a contract) ask for a contract. Every time I go to church I feel so loved and comforted. People call and hug and pray.
So while I could just think about me, my thoughts are constantly directed back to God – to His goodness, His peace, His love (which shines radiantly through His church to us), His heart.
I just wish Christian singers could show this to people. Instead of songs being all about themselves, their songs could be about God and all the great things about Him. Kinda like this one ~

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: “My God, how great Thou art!”

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

About Sonja

I am a wife, a mom, a homeschooler, a Christian, a scrapbooker, a cook, a baker, a reader, and a thinker. I am many other things, too, that are not so easily defined. Right now, God has been calling me to be faithful in what He has given me to do – to be the best wife, mom, homeschooler, friend, etc. that I can be. In essence, He has told me to “bloom where I’m planted”.

    Because too many churches have turned the music into “worship”, while the entire service should be, and too many have bought the notion that the congregation needs be entertained or we’ll lose them – and their tithe. Tickle the ear, and they’re happy. Follow the money, Baby!
