(Sigh)
Today I am tired, and a little sad. This last weekend was nice. We’re going to be busy for a while, it seems, so that will be good. I keep getting sad – usually on days I feel are “important”, like our first day of school, or Daniel’s birthday party. đ Keeping busy is good, but doesn’t really do much to keep my mind off things.
So, the weekend in review ~
This morning (Tuesday) the boys & I woke up early. Jonathan & Daniel had eye exams this morning. We needed to be at the dr.âs office at 8:40 a.m.! Thankfully we made it there on time. đ I had tried to explain to the boys what they would need to do, emphasizing honesty above all. As most of you know, both Jef & I wear glasses and Nicholas does too, so I didnât want them fudging the answers just to get glasses like everyone else. đ They did pretty well. Daniel had a hard time sitting still while Jonathan was in the chair, but overall, he did great. Jonathan also had a hard time sitting still, but he wasnât quite as squirmy as Daniel. đ Dr. Gorum said both boys are far-sighted to one degree. He said that is nothing to worry about â weâll start to worry if it gets to three degrees. He said since they are young, they will probably âgrow intoâ their eyes. đ Jonathan did really well on his whole exam. He did especially well on the color-blindness test. Daniel did ok on his exam. The dr. had to show him pictures instead of letters. Both Jef & I thought he could have done the letters, but Daniel said he couldnât tell what they were. Daniel surprised the doctor on the depth perception test. He did so well Dr. Gorum said he could be a pilot someday! (Donât get Mamaâs hopes up now!! I always wanted to be in the Air Force, but never had the eyesight. Oh, and they didnât allow women on aircraft carriers then âŚ)
Anyways, that was the exam. They are fine. Heâll see them again in a year or two. After the exam, we stopped by the bank & my dr.âs office (needed to pay a bill from June). Then we came home & watched âSpidermanâ before Jef headed off to work.
We were supposed to go to a Suessical (a Dr. Suess Musical) today (Wednesday), but Kamali couldnât take us. Not having a ride turned into a good thing, though, because I wasnât sure if I wanted to go. I guess I was worried if it would be any good, and how I would handle the kids (yes, Kamali would be there to help, but theyâve never been to a show before ⌠), etc. That and not feeling so âupâ made me almost glad we didnât get to go. We were bummed though, about not getting to spend the day with Aaron & Charissa.
Skipping all over the place here â Monday â
Monday Jef had two computer jobs to do. He had one way down in Parkland (about 45 min. away) and one at William Dickson (where he usually fixes computers). The job down in Parkland ended up being super easy â he just reset their router! đ So he felt really good about that. Then he went to Wm. Dickson Co. and trained everyone on using their new fax machine that he installed. This machine is amazing! It can receive e-mails & print them out like faxes!! Or, it can send and e-mail to your mailbox. Technology, man.
When Jef got home, he & the boys fixed Baloo (his car â a 1986 Pontiac Sunbird). Baloo needed some wires replaced and something else fixed. Jef did these things, then reset the timing. We headed off to Kamali & Tinaâs so we could work on a flyer for Jefâs business. The car was feeling kind of rough, so Jef took the car to Buckyâs to get the oil changed. Weâd just paid for that at Goodyear not too long ago, but they didnât replace the sticker in the window, and the carâs been so rough. So we think they may have charged us without actually doing the oil change. đ
We hung out with Kamali & Tina. We had pizza and chocolate (always a good thing). We watched âThe Life Aquatic by Steve Zissouâ. Funny movie, a lot like âThe Royal Tannebaumsâ. :o)
Sunday ~
Today our friend Adam came over. Adam is from Gambia, Africa. She is really neat. Adam went to college in London. She used to work with Jef, but now she works & lives in Bellevue. ( We miss her & donât get to see her as often as weâd like. Adamâs girls, Kadijha & Ramou are in elementary school. Their school was having a fundraiser for victims of Katrina. So Adam & I made cookies all day. ( We made the following cookies:
- Reese’s peanut butter cookies (you know the store-bought kind you just put on the cookie sheet & bake?)
- Oatmeal raisin
- Peanut blossoms (my momâs recipe!!)
- Chocolate chip
- Thumbprint cookies â a dozen with jam and about a dozen and a half with kisses
- Lemon squares
It was a busy day! The boys had a lot of fun with the girls. They played outside with chalk (writing on the sidewalk), they played âUNOâ, they played in their room, they played Nintendo, and they played âSorry!â. It was a busy day.
