well, okay – I have two tidbits of news, or, more correctly, one tidbit of news and one tidbit of opinion. 🙂
The news first – I’ve started reading Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (thanks Mel, Christina & Morgan). I’m only on chapter 3. I’ll keep you posted as to how I like it.
The opinion – I posted that blog earlier today and said that I should stop writing before I started ranting & just ragged on Obama. I got to thinking this evening and I said something to Jeff about that. He made the comment that the way I felt (not wanting to just be mean and tear down Obama) was the way a lot of Republicans felt and so they just don’t say anything. Meanwhile, the Democrats have this whole machine out there making stuff up, not caring who they hurt. Maybe Republicans should be stronger and say what they think. It is possible to say what you think without tearing someone down. Sometimes, though, it seems that the facts are so harsh that we feel like we are being mean when we state them. In reality, it is mean (or harmful) to not state the facts. Both sides of the issues need to be stated in order for us to make an informed decision.
I’ve said this before in regard to abortion. We talk about a woman’s choice, but when it comes down to it, a woman is rarely (if ever) told by a pro-choice person what will happen if she aborts the baby. Women are told their lives will be easier and everything will be okay if they have an abortion. They are not told about the pain involved, or about the guilt they may feel, or the phantom cries they might hear, or even about the danger to their bodies that can occur. How can a woman make an informed decision without knowing all these things?
How then can we, as American voters, make informed decisions about our leaders if we do not know all the facts? Republicans need to stand up and state the facts – even if they are only “as we know them” at least another facet will be being discussed.
Side note ~
Did you know that the moderator for the debate between Joe Biden & Sarah Palin is a staunch Obama supporter who stands to make a lot of money if he wins? I’ll be watching to see if she is unbiased in her treatment of the candidates.
