The passing of a friend

Well, I was going to post about how happy our weekend has been, but it has suddenly turned sad. We came home this afternoon & Jef called Linda Crites to talk (we try to call on Saturdays). Someone else answered the phone.
Linda passed away this morning. They said it was a heart attack. She had congestive heart failure, and has been living beyond the drs. expectations for three years now. Tom was out with his careprovider. The careprovider found Linda and she was already gone.
We are very, very sad here at our house this evening. While we know she is with Jesus and much better off, it still hurts to think she is gone. Tom is pretty torn up. We are praying for him, as we are not sure where he will live and stuff like that.
We miss you already Linda!

(this should have been posted on Saturday, but my domain expired and Blogger was having troubles)

Psalm 23 prayer

THE LORD, MY SHEPHERD
By Gail Rodgers

“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul.” (Psalm 23: 1 – 3a)
This disappointment was a hard one to bear. Her hopes had been high. She had always believed that God took an interest in the details of her life. She even thought that He had orchestrated these particular details … yet today she felt her faith falter. In this disappointment she wondered where God was. I was disappointed too. “Father, how should I pray? Give me Your perspective”, I prayed as my heart hurt for her. That still, small voice of His Spirit impressed my mind with the thought that I should pray these words of Scripture over her circumstances … The familiar words of Psalm 23: 1 took on fresh meaning…
“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.”
Father, thank You that You are the Good Shepherd and You see every tear. Carry my friend now, as a tender shepherd carries a wounded lamb. Comfort her in this time of questioning. Draw her to come and find her needs met in You.
“He makes me lie down in green pastures,”
Father, provide restful places where her soul will be fed. Help her to sleep well at night. Nudge her to reach for Your word and speak to her heart by the power of Your Holy Spirit.
“He leads me beside quiet waters”
Calm and quiet her spirit, Lord. Bring her to a fresh belief that You do have her best interest at heart. Free her from any confusing thoughts of self – condemnation. Let her spirit drink deeply from Your living water.
“He restores my soul.”
Father God, thank You that You alone are the One who can restore the broken and hurting places within a wounded soul. Help her run to You in her pain and not from You. Restore hope and peace within her. Pour out Your refreshing on her soul so that she may catch her breath and be strengthened to carry on. Thank You that You are called My Shepherd, the Shepherd of my soul, fully trustworthy, fully able to restore. We praise the name of the Lord our God!

Received this in the mail. Thought I would share it with all of you!
Here is what it says on the back –
The Tacoma School District spends $9,968 per student. Federal Way does it for $8,005 per student.
The Tacoma School District lost 2,746 students in the last 4 years and gained 207 more employees.
Homeowners in Tacoma pay a higher rate of property taxes than virtually any community in the state, maybe even the nation! Higher property taxes mean renters pay more too.
Stop this madness, vote NO on excess school taxes!

There is a petition to raise taxes once again (probably another bond) to increase spending on schools. I have no idea where this money is going. They’ve already rebuilt Mason Middle School, Jefferson Elementary, are re-doing Wilson High School & Stadium High School. Mt. Tahoma High got a new building somewhere. I can’t think of where this money might need to go! They are spending MILLIONS (literally) on Stadium, when it would have been cheaper to have sold it & build a new high school somewhere else.
Anyways … these are the happenings in this little corner of the world!

~ April ~

This month of April is said to derive its name from the Latin verb aperio, which signifies to open , because all the buds and blossoms are now opening, and we have arrived at the gates of the flowery year. Reader, if you are yet unsaved, may your heart, in accord with the universal awakening of nature, be opened to receive the Lord. Every blossoming flower warns you that it is time to seek the Lord; be not out of tune with nature, but let your heart bud and bloom with holy desires. Do you tell me that the warm blood of youth leaps in your veins? Then, I entreat you, give your vigor to the Lord. It was my unspeakable happiness to be called in early youth, and I could fain praise the Lord every day for it. Salvation is priceless, let it when when it may, but oh! an early salvation has a double value in it. Young men and maidens, since you may perish ere you reach your prime, “It is time to seek the Lord.” Ye who feel the first signs of decay, quicken your pace: that hollow cough, that hectic flush, are warnings which you must not trifle with; with you it is indeed time to seek the Lord. Did I observe a little grey mingled with your once luxurious tresses? Years are stealing on apace, and death is drawing nearer by hasty marches, let each return of spring arouse you to set your house in order. Dear reader, if you are now advanced in life, let me entreat and implore you to delay no longer. There is a day of grace for you now — be thankful for that, but it is a limited season and grows shorter evert time that clock ticks. Here in this silent chamber, on this first night of another month, I speak to you as best I can by paper and ink, and from my inmost soul, as God’s servant, I lay before you this warning, “It is time to seek the Lord.” Slight not that work, it maybe be your last call from destruction, the final syllable from the lip of grace.
Charles Spurgeon, 1867

I know who holds tomorrow …

and I know He holds my hand.

Seen on a Starbuck’s cup:

“The Way I See It #85”
Let go of your sorrow.
Let go of your blues.
Coz I know tomorrow
is yesterday’s news.
Let go your sadness,
give up the fight,
follow your madness
and take flight … take flight.
— Seal

What’s your take on this?

There’s nothing like a Paul Simon song

to make you smile. Well, specificially, “You can call me Al” always puts me in a good mood. That, followed by Monty Python (on launchcast) – the one about the books by famous authors – is definitely mood-changing medicine. 🙂
