Still Thrilled

We went to the Fair today! God totally blessed us with free tickets for the whole family. Someone gave Jef one, along with two free scone coupons; someone else gave us two; and yet another person gave us one! Nicholas was free, so that was good! We only spent $9 at the fair today (a feat in and of itself, if you ask me!). We had to pay $7 for parking and then we bought two more scones, so each of the kids could have one.
We got to see mama pigs and their babies, goats, alpacas, llamas, chicks, bunnies, zebras, wallabies, angora goats, cattle, African watusi cow (I think), and so many more!
We watched the draft horse presentation. It was wonderful! The horses were so beautiful & very well driven. I was amazed at how the men could get six of those huge horses to turn sharply and do so many different things. They also had some Shetland ponies in the ring too. They were fast!! They were Daniel’s favorite. The ponies liked to dance and were very good at pulling their cart. There were six of them and they were black.
We also got to see a dog show! The 4-H club was having its novice dog show and we sat in an watched it for a bit. The dogs were cool! There was one dog, Rosie, who was really laid back. She just followed her mistress along, not really going any faster or slower, just moseying. She was fun to watch. Then there was another dog, a standard poodle named Casey, who was very fun to watch. She was quick. But she also knew who the judge was, because she would do the commands, but look at & go toward the judge rather than her mistress. She was really fun to watch, too.
We played games in Toonzville and went to the petting farm. We also went to the Pioneer Farm and churned butter, chopped veggies and sawed wood. The boys each brought home a piece of birch that they cut with an old saw. ๐Ÿ™‚ There was a guy helping them, and he was great.
The kids got their faces painted (twice!!). We also saw some dancers and looked at some hot tubs. The kids were fascinated with the hot tubs. Did you know there is a hot tub out there that is meant for exercise? It has a built-in rowing thing and is deep enough that you could swim in it!
The best thing we did was the last thing. We had planned to do this, but when we got such a late start & everyone was feeling kind of sick (we’ve been battling head colds the last three days), I didn’t think we’d do the last thing. Every day at the fair, they have a concert. Grandstand seating is free, with fair admission. Today the Beach Boys were playing. The real Beach Boys!!! I’d wanted to go and see them since I’d heard they were coming, months ago. I have never been to a concert before. I’ve been to a couple of gospel bands/quartets at churches, but those weren’t really concerts. Anyways! It took a little convincing, because although I wanted to go, I didn’t want to if the family wasn’t going to have fun. ๐Ÿ™‚
So we decided to go, thinking if it was too crowded or whatever that we could just leave. We found seats way up high (almost all the way to the top) in the grandstand. But we were almost in the middle, so we had a great view! It was neat being up so high because we were able to see the hills and the mountain and even the freeway!
The concert was AWESOME!!!! People had told me the Beach Boys are old and aren’t that great in concert, but they were wrong! Well, okay, they are old, compared to me … But they were great in concert!!! It was so fun! People sang along with them and danced and just had a good time. My favorite part was when they dedicated the song “Surfer Girl” to all the ladies in the audience. ๐Ÿ™‚ Suprisingly, I knew most of the songs they sang. Jef had teased me at the beginning because I thought the only Beach Boys song I knew was “Kokomo”. But I knew more than I realized! It was so fun at the end because everyone was singing and it was just neat. The kids even liked it! (Daniel did think it was a little too loud) I loved every minute of it!! Jef said that was one of the best concerts to go to as a first concert. ๐Ÿ™‚ Tomorrow night Jef gets to go see Randy Stonehill & the Lost Dogs. He’s going to be front row center for that one. ๐Ÿ™‚
Anyways, that was our day.

And our night.
Tomorrow we go to the zoo!
Happy weekend!!
