another quote

So I’ve been reading, as I’ve said before. I’m really enjoying the Zion Covenant Series by Brody & Brock Thoene. However, I have to “order” the books from the library, as they are not all at the same library.
[sidenote: I remember when I was little we moved to Maine. I was not a happy camper. I didn’t want to leave my woods and friends in Vermont. When we got to Maine, we lived in town (something we hadn’t done for a few years in Vermont). That was another blow. However, the library was within walking distance (it wasn’t a huge town anyway). The first time I went there, I was mesmerized. There, on the shelves, just at my eye level, were TWO rows each of Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books!!! I could start at the beginning and read them all!! That seemed so perfect to me. I’ve always liked to start at the beginning of a series and read it through.]
So, while I am waiting for the next book in the series (which, I found out contains 9 books [I thought there were only six], and two other series that play off the characters in this series), I am reading Mansfield Park by J. Austen. Jeff and I watched the movie a couple weeks ago. It didn’t seem to be all that I remembered. But, I haven’t read Mansfield Park since I was 16 (?). So I am reading it again. 🙂
Whew. all that to post a quote!! (Kamali is probably laughing at me)
Here’s the quote ~

“… I consider that it is (marriage), of all transactions, the one in which people expect most from others, and are least honest themselves.” ~ Mary Crawford, Mansfield Park

President Bush visits soldiers in England

Here is an article on something President Bush has been doing. He visits hospitals fairly often, it seems. Some of the pictures may disturb you. Remember to pray for our troops.
People on the left want to portray President Bush as being heartless. Once you see him in these pictures, you will know differently. I am thankful we have a President who honors our troops as he does.

Advice from Professor Higgins

(read with all of Henry Higgins’ (My Fair Lady) condescension)

“Marry some sentimental hog with lots of money and a thick pair of lips to kiss you with and a thick pair of boots to kick you with! If you can’t appreciate what you’ve got, you’d better get what you can appreciate.”

Thank You, God!

Today I just wanted to say thanks to God. Over the past few days I have been realizing how truly blessed I am. God has brought me through many different things, and right now, I have a great life! God has given me a wonderful husband (whom I am missing dearly right now – he’s at a retreat), three great kids (they listen and are kind and loving for the most part), a house to live in, a minivan (something we prayed for for a long time), an awesome church & extended family there, friends who are around in the good and bad times … God has blessed me with an overabundance of good things!
This morning I read this verse ~
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. (James 1:12)
I know I’m not done yet, or anything, but it seems like God has given me a wonderfully full life.
So I wanted to say “Thank You”. 🙂

Halloween

The boys dressed up for Halloween. Here they are outside Freighthouse Square.
Nicholas was a puppy (more specifically, Wags the Dog from the Wiggles), Daniel was Superman, and Jonathan was a ninja (doesn’t he look scary?).

To be as bold as a child …

Yesterday the boys went with me to do laundry. There was a little boy (maybe 5 or 6?) there who followed us around. He never came and introduced himself (I think kids today don’t know how), and would always sit just a little ways away from us. Daniel seemed to want to talk to him, so I asked him if he had introduced himself. He walked over & said, “Hi, what’s your name?”
“Julian”
“What?”
“JU-li-an”
“My name’s Daniel.”
Daniel talked to Julian, and they played a bit, then Daniel asks, “Do you know God?” (the tone of his voice gave the impression that of course Julian knew God – everybody does)
Julian told Daniel he hates God. Daniel totally didn’t know what to do with that. He came over and sat by me and I asked him what was wrong (I hadn’t heard Julian’s answer). Daniel looked very upset and said, “He says he hates God.”
I told Daniel some people say that; that not everyone believes in God. Daniel got up and went back to talk to Julian. He told him how God is the best person ever. “How can you not like Him? He made us!”
When we got in the van (all this happened just before we left), Daniel & I talked some more. He was totally flabbergasted that someone would say they hate God. We talked about how we can tell those people about God loving them. We decided to pray for Julian.

Daniel impressed me. I thought, “it would be nice to be as brave as Daniel. To be able to just walk up to people and talk about God.”
While I was at work last night, I heard a Newsboys song (of course – Steve Taylor writes the best lyrics!!) that summed it all up. I tried to point out my favorite line.

Newsboys Live In Stereo lyrics
This field guide’s got no soul
Digging for the sacred
In a man-made hole
The soil gets harder
The shovel won’t behave
I just dug myself
Into a six foot grave
I need a new dimension
Got to Supersize
A Jacobean ladder
To a parallel prize
The walks by faith
The sight lines lie
How am I gonna tag along
With one tin ear
And one glass eye?
Well I…
I can’t get there from here
When every sense is in mono
Walk by faith, you appear
I wanna live in stereo
I can’t get there from here
Without a God-directed go
Walk by faith, you appear
I’ve gotta live in stereo
I quit, I fold, I’m done
Trying to scale Everest
Sherpa-less
Ain’t fun
The best-laid plans
Are in my other pants

The base camp’s buried
In an avalanche
I need a new dimension
Got to Supersize
A Jacobean ladder
To a parallel prize
The walk’s by faith
The lone wolf dies
How am I gonna follow you
With blue man ears
And snow blind eyes?

Funny Newsboys

Here’s a funny Newsboys video. The quality isn’t that great, but hey.

Here are the lyrics to the song –

Newsboys Woo Hoo lyrics
request the honor of your presence
the tear gas has blown away
put down your crumpets and your coffee now
so unfashionably late
little brother, little sister
underwater we go
out of our ordinary selves
stepping out
to where the people sing
woohoooooooooo
-and the people sing
-and the times are good
you say i’m acting like a beggar
i call it killing the fool
you carry more baggage
than a momma’s boy
on your first day of school
let go the light of the t.v.
drop the hands
the chains that bind me
turn it all around
stop, lift you up `n die to self
in a time when the left and the right’s the same
when it’s all blurred vision in a crazy haze
send out the invitations!
you say I’m acting like a beggar
i call it killing the fool
to save your life you gotta lose it
so the people sing

Furler, Joel
