Once again …

Peggy Noonan rocks!

How come we forget so easily the character of Americans? How is it that we have come to be known by this character? I don’t know if we are thought of in the same light so much anymore, but there was a time when “American” was synonomus with “good, trustworthy”. I think, despite what the mainstream media says, that we are still thought of that way in a lot of places.

Book Fair!!!

We’re heading up to Auburn tomorrow to go to the book fair. I went earlier this year with Michelle & it was fun. This time I am taking Jef. 🙂 It is a huge warehouse with TONS of books and school stuff.

Conversation with Nicholas

We were in the van tonight, driving home from McDonald’s (we’d gone and had supper there to help support the American Cancer Society. They had a “take over” at McDonald’s.). Earlier in the day, Nicholas had been corrected for interrupting a conversation.
Jef and I had been talking, and we finally paused. We were almost home.
“Mommy,” Nicholas says (rather tentatively, too).
“Yes, Nicholas”
“Okay, I have two questions.” he says. “First, why do I have a cookie (he says it ‘coo-key’) in my box? And two, what’s that thing with a long neck like a zebra?”
“Huh?” I reply.
“A giraffe?” Jeff ventures
“Yeah!” Nicholas exclaims.
Jeff and I talk some more, then there is a pause.
“But Mom, why do I have a cookie in my box??” Nicholas asks.

He’s so cute. I just had to share. 🙂

new quilt

We’ve been married 12 years now, and haven’t had new bedding since we were married! This summer, when we went camping, our fitted sheet ripped. 🙁 So we didn’t have any sheets for our bed.
God blessed us with some extra money this month, so I found some 400-count sheets on sale at Target ($12.99/sheet) and bought them. Then I went to Penney’s and bought a quilt, because our old comforter was worn out.
Here are pictures of my new quilt!

Jonathan’s new do

Jonathan decided his hair was “too messy” and he wanted a flat top. So we finally got him to the barber shop when it was open! Here’s his new hairstyle –

he was showing how big the burger was 🙂

this was taken later – at Daniel’s soccer practice, and I am not sure if he’d put goop in his hair to make it stand up.

Why isn’t this all over the news?

We’ve been following a story for a while now about global warming. There is a new study out that shows that 1998 was NOT the hottest year of the century, rather, Dust Bowl year 1934 was.
NASA is downplaying the findings, calling them “trivial”. I have heard neither hide nor hair of this on national news. I did hear about it on talk radio, but that was it.
So my question is, Why isn’t this spread all over the news? The “fact” that 1998 was the hottest year of the century (or did they say millenium?) made the news, both nationally and worldwide, for a long time.
You can read an article on this here – http://www.thestar.com/News/article/246027
If you want, you can reply & talk to me about this. 🙂

On our anniversary, we went to the Rose Garden at Point Defiance Park. The dahlias were in bloom & absolutely gorgeous! We found this one, and I made Jef take a picture because it was AS BIG AS MY HEAD!!! okay, maybe it was a little smaller. :o)
