The FOX News guys (Steve & Olaf) were released Sunday morning, safely. You can read the story here. They did have to become Muslims at gunpoint, but now they are home safe & sound. I’m sure they can recant their confession if they want.

Hi All! Things have been busy here this last week or so. This week we (the kids & I) went to the park twice to play with friends. I also went shopping for fabric for a quilt, then on Thursday I went to a quilting thing at the church! We have really enjoyed our new church. Tuesday found me in SeaTac with Michelle, my pastor’s wife, attending an info meeting for WAVA (WAshington Virtual Academy).
Allow me to share the story (you know how I love stories!!).
Awhile ago, I heard about WAVA. I thought it sounded like something good, but I wasn’t sure. The more I heard about it, though, the less I liked it. WAVA is an internet school, funded through the public school. They will give you everything for free. You get curriculum, books, workbooks, even science stuff – all for free. This sounded good. Since it is a public school-funded program, you would have a teacher over you. Then I learned that each family has to meet with a teacher once a week. Then I heard the teacher will also call you during the week to check up on you!! That was too intrusive for me, so I pretty much signed off on the idea of WAVA.
When Michelle asked me if I wanted to go to the informational meeting with her, I said yes. I was going to say no, but then I thought maybe I’d get some answers. So Tuesday we drove up to SeaTac. The meeting was good. They had different tables set up with the curriculum your child would be using. The curriculum looked good – especially the Language Arts and math. There was a lady from WAVA there who gave a presentation. She had a lot of info. Here are some things I found out –
* the parent/teacher meetings are limited to the phone (every other week) and e-mail (every opposite other week).
* you can maintain your homeschool status by enrolling your child in no more than five classes (they only need math, l/a, history, science & art!!!).
* If you maintain your homeschool status, your interaction with the teacher is limited further.
* The kids are tested with the WASL, but if you remain a homeschooler, your child(ren) is not subject to the WASL (which makes me happy because I do NOT like the WASL. And I don’t want to teach the children to a test.).
*You can withdraw at any time.
* there are placement tests for your kids to take online, and you may use them even if you don’t decide to enroll.
All of this to say, we decided to enroll the kids and see how it goes. Daniel is done with his tests, Jonathan is finishing his last one today. I’ll keep you informed on how it goes!
The news guys were seen on a video (90 seconds) sent to Al Jazera TV. They seemed ok – Steve was shaved and they weren’t reading from a script. Please continue to pray that they get released or rescued safely.

That’s what’s left.
A few minutes ago Jess of It’s my life laugh if you must signed up and became the 2,000 the participant in 2,996. Her welcome email told her she was #2,021 but we’ve had some entrants deleted due to bad sign-up info.
The first 1,000 took 57 days. We made the jump from 1,000 to 2,000 in 25 days.
Now we’ve got 23 days to get the last 996.
I think we can do it.
To all of you that have been writing posts, convincing others to sign up…KEEP IT UP. You are all doing an amazing job–which can be confirmed by my webhost who late last night told me I’d used up my bandwidth for the month. “

Ok, I think I finally have the story straight. I thought the FOX News guys were captured to get this other guy released. THAT is NOT true!
Ok, so here’s what really happened. The Israeli soldiers who were kidnapped at the beginning of this war between Israel & Hezbollah were taken so that this man – Samir Kuntar – and about 1000 others, could be free. (I was going to post a picture, but I don’t think he should be given the privilege) Israel has a habit of not leaving ANYONE behind – living or dead. They have exchanged prisoners before for the body of one of their own.
Now about Kuntar. Samir Kuntar has been in prison a long time, but not long enough. Here is the story of what he did & why he is in prison –
The True Story
This is an old story, being posted in the Washington Post on May 18, 2003. But the act itself happened on April 22, 1979. This man should not be allowed out!! Why is it when Israelis or Americans do something, the whole world is in an uproar, and yet when Hezbollah commits these acts of terror and just plain cruelty, the stories get forgotten or hidden.

The fact that Kuntar committed this act before Hezbollah was formed is of no consequence in my mind. Hezbollah routinely uses people to further their goals. They hide their weapons in schools, hospitals and area where a lot of people live. They do this on purpose, not because they haven’t anywhere else to stockpile stuff.
I hope Kuntar stays in jail a long time. Israel should take advice from the movie “Galaxy Quest” – “never give up, NEVER SURRENDER!!!”
Palastinian gunmen have kidnapped FOX News people – Steve Centanni (American/reporter), and Olaf Wiig (New Zealander/cameraman). No one is sure why.

The fifth anniversary of 9-11 is just under a month away. Jef found this place on the web that is trying to get people to post tributes. The idea is simple, for each person killed, a different blogger will post a tribute on 9-11. They probably explain it better than I do, so here’s what the website says:

A message from the guy who started it all…
For each of us something different about 9/11 brought the tragedy into focus. For me it was the sympathy and grief that poured in from overseas.
I remember a story on CNN that showed a Volkswagen Plant in Germany, where each employee brought a candle and placed it in the factory’s entryway. I was staggered at the scenes of foreigners openly weeping. The closing visual of thousands of candles burning on the marble floor left me speechless.
The first tears I shed for 9/11 were as I watched the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace later that evening. That night the Queen had the Royal Guard play the Star Spangled Banner instead of England’s Anthem — a huge crowd of expatriates and British wept outside the gates. That tribute — a national leader, even if for just a moment, diminishing their own national identity as a show of sympathy — was one of the bravest and most touching political acts I have witnessed. And I remember wondering, if the situation were reversed, if we would have the courage to do the same.
