Daniel’s fish cake

We had Daniel’s birthday party yesterday. It was a “Splashy Blast Party”! We had water balloons and squirt guns and everyone (well, all the kids) got very wet!
I made two cakes. One was a chocolate peanut butter four layer cake (it collapsed under its own weight, though, 🙁 and part of it broke off) – the cake was chocolate with peanut butter mixed in, and the filling was peanut butter frosting (vanilla frosting mixed with peanut butter). The whole cake was frosted with chocolate frosting.
The second cake was the fish cake (above). It was a yellow cake in a 13×9″ pan. You can see the recipe here . I changed the colors because we couldn’t find regular colored M&Ms, they were all “Jack’s Gems” from “Pirates of the Caribbean” (which Jef & I actually got to see in the theatre!!! We went on Aug. 6 for our anniversary). 🙂
All in all it was a fun day!

Great article!

You all know how I like to check out things on Snopes.com. Jef routinely checks out snopes for news. 🙂 Today he found this article (click here) by Brigitte Gabriel. Brigitte is a Christian who fled Lebanon for Israel during the Lebanese civil war and who now heads the American Congress for Truth (ACT), a Virginia-based organization the Durham Herald-Sun described as a “aimed at exposing the threat of Islamic fundamentalism.”
Here are a couple quotes from the article that I liked (but you should really read the whole thing for yourself) ~
“I was raised in Lebanon, where I was taught that the Jews were evil, Israel was the devil, and the only time we will have peace in the Middle East is when we kill all the Jews and drive them into the sea.”
“I spent 22 days at that hospital. Those days changed my life and the way I believe information, the way I listen to the radio or to television. I realized I was sold a fabricated lie by my government, about the Jews and Israel, that was so far from reality. I knew for fact that, if I was a Jew standing in an Arab hospital, I would be lynched and thrown over to the grounds, as shouts of joy of Allah Akbar, God is great, would echo through the hospital and the surrounding streets.”
“The difference between the Arabic world and Israel is a difference in values and character. It’s barbarism versus civilization. It’s democracy versus dictatorship. It’s goodness versus evil.”
“Once upon a time, there was a special place in the lowest depths of hell for anyone who would intentionally murder a child … However, once such behaviour is legitimized against Israel, it is legitimized everywhere in the world, constrained by nothing more than the subjective belief of people who would wrap themselves in dynamite and nails for the purpose of killing children in the name of God.”

C.A.A.D.D.

Recently, I was diagnosed with C. A. A. D. D. – Child Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
This is how it manifests:
I decide to do the laundry.
As I start toward the basement, I notice that there are cheerios all over the floor and my car keys are in the cereal bowl. I decide to pick up the cheerios before I do the laundry. I lay my car keys down on the counter, put the cheerios in the trash can under the counter, and notice that the trash can is full. So, I decide to take out the trash. But then I think, since I’m going to be near the mailbox when I take out the trash I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my checkbook off the table, and see that there is only one check left, my extra checks are in my desk in the office/playroom, so I go to my desk where I find a sippy cup full of juice.
I’m going to look for my checks, but first I decide I should put the sippy cup in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the sippy cup a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye — they need to be watered. I set the sippy cup on the counter, and I discover baby wipes that I’ve been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back in the bathroom, but first I’m going to water the flowers. I set the wipes back down, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote, one of the kids left it on the kitchen table. I realize that after school when they go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote as they fight over who lost it, but I won’t remember that it’s on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I’ll water the flowers. I splash some water on the flowers, but most of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back down, get some paper towels and wipe up the spill.
Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day: the laundry isn’t washed, the bills aren’t paid, there is a warm cup of juice sitting on the counter, the flowers aren’t watered, there is still only one check in my checkbook, I can’t find the remote, I can’t find the wipes, and I don’t remember what I did with the car keys. Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I’m really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I’m really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, and I’ll try to get some help for it, but first I’ll check my e-mail. Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message, because I don’t remember to whom it has been sent.
Don’t laugh — if this isn’t you yet, your day is coming.

Shine

Dull as dirt
you can’t assert
the kinda light that
might persuade
a strict dictator to retire
fire the
army,
teach the poor origami
the truth is in
the
proof is when you hear your heart start asking
What’s
my motivation?
And try as you may
there isn’t a
way
to explain the kinda change
that would make an
eskimo renounce fur
that would make a vegetarian barbeque
hamster
unless you can trace this about-face to a certain
sign

shine
make em wonder whatcha got
make
em wish that they were not
on the outside looking bored
shine
let it shine before all men
let em see good
works and then
let em glorify the lord

Out of
the shaker and onto the plate
it isn’t karma it sure
ain’t fate
that would make a deadhead sell his van
that would make a schizophrenic turn in his crayons
Oprah
freaks and science seeks
a rationale that shall excuse
this strange behavior
when you let it shine
you will
inspire the kind of entire turnaround
that would make a
bouncer take ballet
even bouncers who arent happy
but
out of the glare
with nowhere to turn
you ain’t
gonna learn it on “What’s my Line?”

Shine
make em wonder whatcha got
make em wish that they were
not
on the outside looking bored
shine
let it
shine before all men
let em see good works and then
let em glorify the lord

Neat site

Was referred to this website last week. It’s pretty neat. I like that it isn’t just for dieters, but it is to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle. That is one thing I am learning – I need to change my lifestyle, not just my eating habits. And I can’t just lose the weight & expect to keep it off if I go back to eating the old way!
I also like the menus because they give you healthy choices within the range of your daily goal. However, you can add whatever you have eaten that day (they have a vast database of food!! They even had Jack in the Box burgers!!)

Anyways – check it out & tell me what you think!!

Jef said Ruby looks like a commercial. 🙂 Here the boys are playing on the east side of the van (to be out of the wind). I’m on the other side of the van. You can see how rough the ocean was and how gray the sky was. 🙂 7.26.06 Posted by Picasa
