Learning Joy

Sunset Magazine has been one of my favorites since 1994 when I “discovered” them. Sunset has been around a long time, but their ideas are always fresh. What I enjoy most is the personalized feel to the magazine – Sunset has five areas it covers:

• Northwest ~ Includes Alaska, British Columbia,Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
• Northern California ~ Extends from the Oregon border south to the counties of Fresno, Kings, Mono, Monterey, and Tulare. Includes all of Nevada except Clark County.
• Southern California ~ Includes the counties of Imperial, Inyo, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and
  Ventura, as well as Hawaii.
• Rocky Mountain and Southwest ~ Mountain includes Colorado, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming. This edition is also distributed to U.S. subscribers residing outside the West, as well as subscribers in the balance of Canada and other international locales.
  Southwest includes Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Clark County, Nevada.

So I get the Northwest edition, and it feels like it was printed just for me! It has places to visit nearby, tells me how to garden right here, and highlights places to eat and shop right in my area.

This morning I received Sunset’s e-mail newsletter. By clicking through the newsletter, I discovered Sunset has a blog!!! How cool is that?! Red Skelton style ~

January 14, 1969 – During his weekly television show, comedian Red Skelton recalled a lecture by his teacher concerning an air of boredom and indifference by the students while saying the pledge. Here is a portion of that lecture – followed by an observation of his own.

Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country, and two words have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance: Under God. Wouldn’t it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer, and that would be eliminated from schools, too? — Red Skelton

Forget-me-nots are one of my favorite flowers. I love how God made them! They remind me of Him, and the care He puts into everything He does. Look at how tiny they are! Yet even so small, they are very detailed. He took care to make them blue, white and yellow with the tiniest black dot in the middle! Next time you see a forget-me-not, remember God & how much He loves you!
